Jimmy Kimmel opens up for first time since his suspension

Jimmy Kimmel breaks his silence in a social media post as he addresses his late-night show suspension for the first time.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, the comedian and host posted a photo of himself and the late Norman Lear on Instagram.

"Missing this guy today," Kimmel captioned the picture.

Lear, the trailblazing TV writer, producer, and activist who passed away in December 2023 at the age of 101, is remembered most for All in the Family, the revolutionary sitcom that dared to tackle hot-button social and political issues of its era.

Previously, on Dec. 17, 2023, during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host grew emotional as he paid tribute to Lear.

Kimmel referred to him as "not only a giant in the world of television, but a great man who was one of the most important and impressive people I ever had the pleasure of meeting."

"He changed situation comedy in the best possible way," Kimmel recalled. "He taught us so much about so many serious things, always making us laugh while he did it, and everyone who works in or even watches television owes him a great debt. Especially me.”

The post appeared only a few hours before Jimmy Kimmel Live! was set to air again.

As the show was suspended after Kimmel’s remark about Charlie Kirk's death, major Hollywood figures were adamantly showing support for the host.

Now, as the Emmy-winning host prepares to step in front of the camera again, Kimmel remembers Lear; perhaps because one of the many lessons Lear taught him was how to navigate political controversy.
