Colman Domingo to be Cowardly Lion in ‘Wicked’ sequel

American actor Colman Domingo has been cast as the Cowardly Lion in the highly anticipated Wicked: For Good film.

The movie’s official social media posted a video of the star where he was surrounded by lion plush toys with him stating at the end, "See you in Oz."

The director for the mega hit adaptation of the musical, Jon M Chu, teased the casting earlier by saying a major star had been cast in the role.

Other cast members include Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, along with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum.

Chu revealed that he had approached Domingo to offer him the role on Instagram, "I was like, 'It's not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you're busy. I'll come to you,' ‘Why the f*** not. Let's go.’”

Domingo boasts two Oscar nominations and has won a Primetime Emmy Award, having been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.

Anticipation has only been growing since the release of the first Wicked film in 2024, with the first full length trailer for the sequel having dropped recently.
