Pop icon Sia’s messy divorce battle has taken a shocking turn, with her estranged husband demanding a staggering $250,856 (£200,000) per month in spousal support.
The 49-year-old singer, known for her powerhouse vocals and chart-topping hits, filed for divorce from Dan Bernard in March, citing “irreconcilable differences” after two years of marriage.
But according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Bernard is now seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars more, claiming he’s broke and unable to afford the legal fight.
“I have no income, no property, and very little money in my bank account,” he stated in his plea to the court, insisting that the Cheap Thrills hitmaker should cover $300,000 in attorney’s fees and $200,000 for a forensic accounting investigation.
Moreover, Bernard claimed he’s been unemployed since April 1, when Sia’s company allegedly cut off funding for their joint business venture, Modern Medicine.
Since then, he’s survived only on temporary payments from the singer which, he says, stopped at the start of October.
For the unversed, the pair share an 18-month-old daughter, Somersault Wonder, while the songstress also has two adopted teenage sons.
Reportedly, the Australian star has asked for full legal and physical custody of their child and wants to end Bernard’s right to spousal support entirely.
Sia was previously married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2016.
She later admitted the split left her in a deep depression, saying: “I was in bed for three years. It was such a dark time.”
