Donald Trump, known for his critical remarks on pop culture and celebrity figures, has once again sparked controversy after taking aim at the NFL’s choice of Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny for next year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
The 79-year-old former US President claimed he has “never heard” of the Latin rapper, who will perform at the NFL’s biggest event in California next February.
Speaking on Newsmax, Trump scoffed: “I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it – it’s crazy. They blame it on some promoter they hired. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
The decision, made jointly by the NFL, Apple Music and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, has divided fans, especially after Bad Bunny previously refused to tour the US over his criticism of America’s immigration policies.
But the MONACO hitmaker isn’t backing down. Hosting Saturday Night Live last weekend, the 31-year-old star told audiences: “I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl… and for those who don’t speak Spanish — you’ve got four months to learn!”
He then switched languages to deliver a proud message to his community: “It’s not just my win — it’s a win for all Latinos in the US. Our contribution here can never be erased.”
Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem echoed Trump’s fury, claiming NFL bosses “will regret it.”
