Savannah Guthrie is taking a temporary break from NBC's Today as she prepares to film a new television project.

During the July 16 broadcast of the morning show, the longtime co-anchor announced she will be absent for the "next few weeks" while production begins on the upcoming Wordle game show, which she is set to host.

The series, executive produced by Jimmy Fallon, is based on the hugely popular word puzzle and is expected to premiere next year.

Guthrie shared her excitement about the opportunity, describing the show as fast-paced, family-friendly and educational.

According to People, she said she was looking forward to bringing the beloved game to television and thanked her Today colleagues for their encouragement.

Her co-hosts responded with applause and warm wishes, saying they were thrilled to see her take on the new role.

Fallon has also praised Guthrie as the ideal host, citing her intelligence, warmth and ability to connect with audiences.

Moreover, the announcement came just days after Guthrie returned to Today following a brief scheduled summer break that was unrelated to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Earlier this month, sources confirmed her absence was simply planned time off.

NBC first announced Guthrie as the host of Wordle in May, and filming is now set to begin.
