Meghan Markle's awkward Paris moment explained by body language expert

Meghan Markle’s Paris Fashion Week appearance made headlines for all the wrong reasons after an awkward moment with Balenciaga designer Pier Paolo Piccioli went viral, and now a body language expert is setting the record straight on what really happened.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, stunned in an all-white custom Balenciaga outfit with black accessories as she greeted Piccioli at the brand’s Spring/Summer 2026 show in Paris.

But things took a turn when Meghan leaned in for an air kiss, and accidentally bumped her head against his sunglasses, leaving fans calling the moment “cringe.”

Speaking to The Mirror, expert Judi James explained: “It was Piccioli who created the ‘cringe’ moment for poor Meghan, getting way too close and missing her non-verbal cues. Their air-kiss turned into a nose-clunk when they both aimed in the wrong direction.”

James added that the designer “kept his shades on,” which made coordination harder, and even tried to physically turn Meghan toward cameras before she quickly regained composure and “took control” of the situation.
