Meghan Markle has sparked major backlash online after posting what critics are calling a “thoughtless” and “beyond stupid” video during her trip to Paris.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared a clip of herself reclining in a limousine with her feet up, filming out the window as her car drove past several Paris landmarks, including bridges close to the Pont de l’Alma, where Princess Diana tragically died in a car crash in 1997.
The footage, posted to Meghan’s 4.2 million Instagram followers, was reportedly taken after her surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week, marking her first visit to Europe in two years.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams blasted the video as “utterly bewildering” and “insensitive beyond belief,” telling The Daily Mail: “I don’t understand what on earth she was thinking, well, she can’t have been thinking. It’s beyond stupid.”
The clip has been widely criticized as tone-deaf, given the tunnel’s deep connection to Princess Diana’s death.
