Prince William has revealed the surprising thing he has in common with Hollywood legend Tom Hanks: a love for Aston Villa Football Club.
Appearing on The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, the 43-year-old Prince of Wales opened up about his family life, his childhood, and his future as King, but he also found time to share a lighter moment about his favorite team.
“I’m a football fan. I support Aston Villa, have you heard of them? Tom Hanks is a big fan,” William told Levy.
He even laughed about the actor’s unusual reason for supporting the Birmingham club, recalling how Hanks once thought “Aston Villa” sounded like a sunny vacation spot.
William explained that he became a Villa supporter as a schoolboy because he didn’t want to follow the crowd of Manchester United and Chelsea fans.
I wanted a team that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments,” he said.
The Prince has since passed his passion for the team on to Prince George, 12, taking him to matches, including this year’s Champions League quarterfinals.
“Those memories are really important to create,” he said.
