Prince William says he won’t repeat King Charles and Princess Diana’s mistakes as a parent

Prince William has opened up about family life and the lessons he’s learned from his parents’ troubled marriage, saying his priority is raising his children in a “happy, healthy, stable home.”

The Prince of Wales, 43, spoke candidly during an episode of Eugene Levy’s hit travel series The Reluctant Traveller, filmed at Windsor Castle.

Reflecting on the divorce of King Charles and Princess Diana, William admitted his own childhood stability was short-lived and vowed not to make “the same mistakes.”

“You have to have that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love,” he said. “That was certainly part of my childhood, but you take the lessons and try not to repeat the mistakes.”

William also hinted at modernising the monarchy, stressing: “Change is on my agenda. Not overly radical change, but change for good.”

The future king balanced serious reflection with lighter moments, joking that his son Prince George is “way better” than him at history, and recalling watching the Windsor Castle fire on TV with his late mother.

Levy described William as “down-to-earth, funny, and very human,” adding: “There’s a normalcy to him that just surprised me.”
