Emma Watson, who rose to fame in the movie world as the brainy heroine of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter saga, isn’t abandoning the writer despite the controversies.
The Teen Choice Award winner revealed her complicated relationship with Rowling on the Sept. 24 episode of The Jay Shetty Podcast.
"I really don't believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, it means that I can't and don't treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with," Watson said.
She added that she doesn’t believe in negating others on the basis of someone else's experiences.
"I think it's my deepest wish that I hope people who don't agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don't necessarily share the same opinion with," she continued.
Watson stressed that tone matters more than words, warning against a culture of disposability where people are cast aside, insisting it’s always wrong to devalue others.
"I just believe that no one is disposable," Watson added. "And everyone, as far as possible, whatever the conversation is, should and can be treated with, at the very least, dignity and respect."
