Hollywood icon Jane Fonda, renowned for her roles in classic films from the 1960s onwards, has been left heartbroken.

The 87-year-old star’s longtime co-star, Robert Redford, recently passed away at the age of 89.

The Oscar-winning actress paid an emotional tribute following his death, admitting she “can’t stop crying” at the news.

“He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way,” she said. “He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”

Notably, Fonda and Redford shared the screen on films spanning five decades.

They first appeared together in 1966’s The Chase, alongside Marlon Brando, before starring in 1967’s Barefoot in the Park and 1979’s The Electric Horseman.

Their final collaboration came in 2017 with Netflix’s Our Souls at Night, a film that marked one of the Global award winner’s last major roles.

Reflecting on their bond in a 2017 interview, the Last Castle actor said, “It just clicks… when we came together, those things were forgotten. We were just she and I working together.”

He also praised the Book Club actress as “a very strong woman… a force. She takes risks. I’ve always admired that.”

Redford, who won the Best Director Oscar for Ordinary People and founded the Sundance Institute, passed away at his Utah home, “surrounded by those he loved,” according to his representative.

Tributes have poured in from Hollywood stars, including Meryl Streep and Marlee Matlin, as well as public figures such as President Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
