Stephen Colbert used his time on the Emmy stage to poke fun at himself during his acceptance speech.

On September 14, the 61-year-old host was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

During his 45 seconds on the stage, Colbert slipped in a playful remark about job hunting that drew laughs from the audience.

He said, “While I have your attention, is anyone hiring?”

Notably, the question came after The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was suddenly cancelled by CBS, which cited ‘financial decisions.’

However, netizens knew it was Colbert’s negative comments about President Donald Trump that led to the decision.

On July 17, 2025, the comedian announced that The Late Show will be retiring and will not be replaced after 33 years. He said, “I’m not being replaced; this is all just going away.”

The news sparked outrage across the industry and was met with criticism by fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Though Colbert’s show will still air until May 2026.

For the unversed, the sudden cancellation of the show was also the result of the merger between CBS and Skydance Media, as the studio was trying to make financial cuts before the deal went through.

What will Stephen Colbert do next?

With his contract ending in 2026, there isn’t any confirmation about Stephen Colbert’s next project, though fans hope he continues to do satirical comedy shows.
