Sheryl Lee Ralph has a connection with the Wicked storyline after she played Madame Morrible in a Broadway production.
Speaking with PEOPLE magazine, the Abbott Elementary star revealed her views on the Wicked film while recalling her own time starring on Broadway.
“One of the greatest times I’ve had onstage was playing Madame Morrible in Wicked on Broadway,” Ralph said about her PBS Kids’ animated show, Weather Hunters.
“And I have no regrets,” the Emmy winner added, “but I just wish they had asked me to play [Madame Morrible] in the film! But that’s all right, it wasn’t mine to have, but it’s okay.”
The movie starred Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
As much as Ralph loves playing Morrible, she praised the Oscar-winning Yeoh’s performance as Madame Morrible.
“I thought she did a wonderful job,” Ralph asserted. “Everybody brings their own special flavour to these roles. My flavour is what I bring, and she brought what she brought, and it’s wonderful.”
The Tony-nominated Broadway star further praised the other actors: “And that all adds to the movie. I love Cynthia, I adore Ariana, and Jonathan Bailey — I swoon. So I’m loving it all.”
