Lewis Capaldi, famed for his heartfelt ballads, has achieved a record in an unusual way.

The 28-year-old Scottish singer’s smash hit Someone You Loved has struck a chord with grieving families across the country.

According to new figures from Co-op Funeralcare, the emotional track has topped the list of songs most frequently chosen to be played at funerals.

Notably, its lyrics resonate so deeply that many mourners now see it as a fitting final farewell.

The Bathgate-born star rose to prominence with the ballad, which has since overtaken many traditional favourites.

Capaldi has explained that the song was inspired by the loss of his grandmother, despite fans once believing it was about his split from Love Island winner Paige Turley.

Furthermore, the track also carries personal significance for the performer.

In 2019, during Glasgow’s TRNSMT festival, the Survive crooner dedicated it to 18-year-old Robbie McArthur from Fife, who had died only weeks earlier.

Robbie’s mother later shared that the track became a constant presence on her visits to his grave.

What has happened to Lewis Capaldi?

Lewis stepped away from performing and touring to prioritise his mental and physical health, particularly managing his Tourette’s syndrome and anxiety.

In June 2023, following the emotional highs and lows of his Glastonbury set, he announced he would be taking an extended break from touring.
