Sabrina Carpenter’s loyal fans rushed to her defence after the interviewer suddenly brought up her ex-boyfriend, Barry Keoghan.

On August 29, in a conversation with CBS Mornings, the 26-year-old pop princess opened up about her latest album, Man’s Best Friend.

The interview went into detail about the singer’s new music and her inspiration; however, it took an unexpected turn when Gayle King, the host, mentioned Carpenter’s former love interest.

She said, “The last album, they were saying it was about Barry Keoghan, Bed Chem. You never said it is or it isn’t about him.”

Fans noticed the Grammy winner’s expression turn tense and serious as she answered, “I just wouldn’t say, it's more fun for people to picture the person in their head than the person I picture in my head.”

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), netizens criticised King for being blunt. One fan wrote, “That was so uncalled for and unnecessary.” Another follower commented, “I was so appalled, who allowed that question to be asked…”

They also praised the Manchild hitmaker for handling the situation well and called her ‘elegant’ for ignoring it politely.

Notably, Carpenter was in a one-year relationship with the 32-year-old actor. They first met in 2023 at the Givenchy show during Paris Fashion Week. The pair went public at the 2024 Met Gala.

According to insiders, the couple broke up allegedly because of the Saltburn star’s ‘party lifestyle,’ and the musician wanted to focus on her career rather than ‘worry about his antics.’

For the unversed, Sabrina's new album Man’s Best Friend consists of 12 tracks and is available to stream on Spotify.
