Natalie Portman is reportedly in talks to play the lead in Sinéad O'Connor’s upcoming biopic.
The 44-year-old actress is the producer's first choice to play the legendary Irish singer.
According to The Sun, the sources said, “They think she is the spit of Sinéad in terms of her physicality, but as an actress. They know she has the strength and power to do justice to Sinéad.”
Earlier this week, Variety reported that the Irish production company that produced Conner’s documentary will take the lead in this project.
The untitled film will be directed by Josephine Decker and written by Stacy Gregg. BBC Films will fund it with Tim Clark serving as executive producer.
The biopic will explore Conner’s early work in the music industry and how one woman from Dublin took on the world.
Notably, the biopic previously titled Nothing Compares has been in the works since 2022. Conner was in deep discussions about the project before her passing in July 2023.
She had pre-selected actresses who would fit perfectly to portray her and, as per the speculations, Saoirse Ronan and Demi Moore were to lead the film.
According to the above-mentioned source, the late record producer and activist liked the idea of the ‘triptych approach’ for the movie’s concept.
For the unversed, in January 2022, the I Want You hitmaker’s son, Shane, was found dead in a secluded area, and just 18 months after his passing, Conner died from natural causes.
As of now, Natalie Portman’s representatives have neither confirmed nor denied the speculation.
