James Gunn recently revealed that a major character from Superman will be joining Milly Alcock’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

In conversation with Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, the DC Studios’ co-CEO shared that the dog, Krypto, from Superman, will play a huge role in driving the next ‘Super family’ film.

He said, “Krypto is also very important in our next movie, 'Supergirl,' and so, we'll find out a lot more then.”

Later, the 59-year-old also added that he used his dog to play Krypto, who appears at the end of the Superman movie. He also shared the alien pet’s origins, stating that it did come from Krypton, but on a different capsule.

Though Gunn won’t be directing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, he will be producing it. Previously, Craig Gillespie was brought in as the filmmaker, and Ana Nogueira has penned the script.

Notably, Milly Alcock made her cameo as the ‘Super cousin’ in Superman, which set the storyline for her upcoming film.

The film will follow the plotline from the comic of the same name, Woman of Tomorrow, where Kara Zoe-El will grapple with her identity and purpose after her 21st birthday.

For the unversed, further plot details haven’t been made public yet; however, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2026.
