Jenna Ortega, star of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, has opened up about her early career struggles and the journey to finding her voice.
While reflecting her initial years in the industry, she admitted she would often “shut myself away” out of fear of speaking incorrectly.
While speaking to Vogue México y Latinoamérica for their September issue, Ortega said, “Being young and assertive is intense for a lot of people, as a woman.”
“I've always known what it's like to not have a voice, and that terrifies me.”
The 22-year-old actress revealed she faced insecurity and self-doubt in the beginning of her career.
“For most of my career, I didn’t know how to express myself.”
Furthermore, the Scream actress reflected on her personality, saying, “I used to be a very extroverted child, but I’ve become more reserved.”
She first gained recognition as the younger version of Jane in Jane the Virgin and since then appeared in major Hollywood productions, including Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Death of a Unicorn.
Jenna Ortega is single at the moment as she told Elle that she is prioritizing her work over dating.
