Meghan Markle, Prince Harrys security fears escalate after break-in close to their estate

A frightening burglary rocked Montecito just minutes from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home, according to local outlet Montecito Journal.

The break-in happened around 8:00 AM on July 20 at a residence on Butterfly Lane, with the homeowner returning to find the property “broken into and ransacked.”

Investigators reportedly lifted a potential fingerprint from a safe keypad, which has been booked for forensic analysis.

The incident unfolded less than two miles from the Sussexes’ secluded estate, the sanctuary Meghan once told The Cut brought “joy” and “calm.”

Purchased for about $14.65 million in 2020, the property is now said to be worth roughly double.

It wasn’t the only safety scare locally. The following day, authorities made multiple drug-related stops in the wider area and took a suspect into custody for possession of paraphernalia.

Another burglary, where fencing was cut and tools, including a generator and DeWalt equipment, were stolen, was reported later that morning.

Law enforcement has previously warned of sophisticated burglary crews targeting upscale neighborhoods in Santa Barbara County, noting patterns of pre-robbery surveillance and quick, high-value hits.

Officials urge residents to keep homes secured, use monitored alarms, and report suspicious activity.

While there’s no suggestion the Sussexes were targeted, the spree is a stark reminder that even star-studded enclaves aren’t crime-proof.
