American action star Frank Grillo recalled an incident that left him “surprised” while working with John Cena for Peacemaker.
Speaking with People while attending the premiere for James Gunn’s series' second season, Grillo shared that the former WWE pro-wrestler’s performance on the show caught him off guard in the best way possible.
“[I’ve] got to tell you, he surprised me the most because he's an amazing actor,” said Grillo. "What he does on this show, with this season specifically, he's got some heavy weights to lift.”
Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr., who is at odds with Peacemaker, said that the “material’s heavy” for the new season. Though, regardless of this, Cena has come up and delivered.
The Warrior actor added that he admires Cena beyond his acting skills. Grillo noted that the Heads of State alum is an exceptionally genuine person to work with.
“He's maybe the nicest guy I've ever met in my life,” Grillo told the outlet.
According to an official synopsis, the second season of the DCU series follows Cena’s Peacemaker as he “faces his traumatic past and takes the future into his own hands” while he “discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be.”
Besides Cena and Grillo, the cast features Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Tim Meadows, and Michael Rooker.
Peacemaker season 2 is streaming now on HBO Max.
