Emmy-nominated Katherine LaNasa opened up about filming one bizarre scene in HBO’s American medical procedural drama The Pitt, which has earned 13 Primetime Emmy nominations.
Katherine plays Dana Evans, the seasoned charge nurse, and revealed that the most difficult word she had to say on the series was “campylobacter,” as she told Variety.
“It’s bacteria in poop or something. I don’t know,” LaNasa said at the HBO Emmy Nominees celebration in Hollywood. “It’s something horrible. It’s something really gross. Sometimes they have stuff that is so gross.”
(According to the Cleveland Clinic, “a Campylobacter infection (campylobacteriosis) is one of the most common causes of diarrhoea. It’s a bacterial infection you can get from undercooked poultry, raw milk, and untreated water.”)
Katherine earned her first-ever Emmy nomination for her role as the ER charge nurse at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Centre.
“There was something I did already [for Season 2], and I told the producer that I think I needed some jewellery for it. Like he needed to give me some diamonds,” she said, laughing. “You’ll see. It’s in episode 2. It’s disgusting.”
Explaining how she pushed through such scenes, Katherine said she had to mentally detach while filming.
“I prepare myself to just go outside my body when it happens,” she said.
Yes, whether you’re into medical dramas or not, The Pitt is worth watching for its intensely emotional and deeply compelling performances.
