Netflix’s Adolescence star Owen Cooper, who played a 14-year-old schoolboy accused of murder, has opened up about the lessons the series holds for parents.
Cooper, who made history as the youngest-ever Emmy nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, reflected on the finale during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I was only in a small bit of that, but that’s my favourite episode,” Cooper said of the final instalment. “If I was to watch the show, I would just watch episode four because I love everything about it. The very last scene [when Jamie’s dad tucks his teddy bear into bed] is so sad, but it’s my favourite scene in the whole show.”
The Netflix breakout teen actor praised the performances of Stephen Graham, Christine Tremarco, and Amélie Pease, calling them “amazing.”
Cooper also appreciated the series’ conclusion, describing it as “brilliant” and commending the structure of the storyline.
“The first episode was about the arrest, then the second episode showed the impact on the school,” he explained. “The third episode focused on Jamie, and the fourth was about the family. I think the fourth episode was the most important because it shows parents that they need to talk to their kids, don’t let them feel lonely.”
Adolescence scored 13 Emmy nominations for 2025, setting a record with Cooper as the youngest-ever Supporting Actor nominee.
