Robbie Williams laughs off viral World Cup 'white substance' speculation

Robbie Williams has addressed widespread online speculation after a mysterious white object fell onto his microphone during a live interview following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. 

She reveals that the viral moment was caused by a breath mint rather than anything more sinister.

According to Daily Mail, the incident occurred shortly after Williams performed the tournament's official anthem, Desire, alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Italian singer Laura Pausini during the closing ceremony at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

While speaking to German broadcaster MagentaTV after Spain's victory over Argentina, a small white object appeared to drop from his face onto the bright pink microphone, quickly sparking speculation across social media.

Responding to the rumors, the former Take That star shared a tongue-in-cheek video on Instagram in which he mockingly apologized for the incident.

"I'd just like to apologize for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday," Williams joked before revealing that the object was a Nicorette breath mint. 

Moreover, he then opened his mouth to show several more mints, poking fun at the online theories.

As per the outlet, the speculation drew particular attention because Williams has previously spoken publicly about his past struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. 

However, the singer has maintained his sobriety for more than two decades and has often reflected on his recovery journey in interviews and documentaries.
