Pop star Katy Perry has faced backlash, adding to what has already been a turbulent year for her
Katy Perry landed herself in hot water after secretly filming part of her Lifetimes music video in a protected area of Spain.
The 40-year-old singer sparked outrage after shooting in Ibiza’s Ses Salines Natural Park, a UNESCO-listed site known for its rare wildlife and important nesting grounds for migratory birds.
Her team reportedly failed to obtain the required permission from Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to film in the park’s sensitive zones.
Officials described it as a “serious” offence but confirmed there was no lasting harm.
Even so, the songstress was forced to pay a substantial fine, with her production company later settling the €6,001 penalty.
The incident came during a difficult year for the Roar hitmaker.
Music sales and tour numbers had been disappointing, and in June she announced the end of her nine-year relationship with actor Orlando Bloom.
For those unfamiliar, the pair share a baby girl.
Earlier this year, the Teenage Dream star joined Blue Origin’s NS-31 all-female suborbital flight.
She described the experience as “life-changing” but faced criticism from environmentalists and celebrities who viewed it as high-carbon luxury travel.
