James Marsden dishes on reprising Cyclops role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

The versatile American actor James Marsden is returning to the MCU’s upcoming instalment as Scott Summers, or Cyclops, after appearing in the first three X-Men films.

Recently, speaking with Vanity Fair, Marsden opened up about reprising his role as a comic book character in Avengers: Doomsday.

“I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume. [Laughs.] I was excited because you’re a part of something gigantic,” he said. “I’ve spent 20 years listening to people say, ‘When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?’”

Marsden joked and added, “I’m dead. Well, maybe not. I’m going to have a tough time getting into costume if they’d waited a couple more years.”

He said it’s been a blast reprising his role, calling it a “nice little homecoming to a role” that had put him on the map.

“It was the first real event project that I was ever a part of,” he said, “and a very beloved character, this icon from the comics. And so to step back into that role was pretty special.”

Marsden appeared as Cyclops in X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), though he died in the latter film.

The Marvel hero is reprising his role in the highly anticipated sequel after twenty years.
