The Deb director and writer, Rebel Wilson, found herself in the limelight again after her co-star, Charlotte MacInnes, replied to her comments.
As per Deadline, MacInnes attorney wrote to Wilson threatening to file for defamation after the lead of the film damaged his client’s reputation in a series of Instagram posts between September 2024 and July 2025.
During the first stage of defamation proceedings, the attorney wrote, “This was her first lead role in a film and you cruelled her professional reputation before she could even enjoy the benefit of the success of the film as the lead actress.”
The 45-year-old actress claimed on social media that MacInnes lied by denying the complaint she made to Wilson about unwanted sexual advances made by the producer, Ghost.
Notably, back in July 2024, the Pitch Perfect star was embroiled in a separate defamation lawsuit by the producers of The Deb. They claimed that she “spread vicious lies without regard.”
Similarly, a third legal suit was filed in July 2025 by AI films, which accused Wilson of “deliberately sabotaging the film’s release."
Notably, the Senior Year lead responded to the claims on her Instagram, stating that she wanted nothing more than to see her film released as she worked on it tirelessly for the past five years.
For the unversed, The Deb premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, but due to ongoing legal battles, a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
