Though Sarah Ferguson often spoke of Queen Elizabeth II with deep admiration and warmth, frequently referring to her as “Mama”, a resurfaced anecdote sheds new light on how the late monarch may have truly felt about her former daughter-in-law.
According to a well-connected source cited by the Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth once made a pointed six-word remark about Ferguson’s famously animated personality, saying: “Does that girl never stop talking?”
The source explained: “Fergie couldn’t stop talking—and inappropriately,” they said. “She was all high jinks, jolly hockey sticks, and practical jokes. Andy loved it; no one else did.”
Despite the Queen’s reported remark, Ferguson, 65, has consistently expressed her love and gratitude for the late monarch, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 96.
During a podcast appearance with Jess Rowe in Australia in late 2024, Ferguson reflected on their bond, saying: “The thing about the Queen was that she was more my mother than my own mother.”
She added: “The Queen was an iconic, legendary, stalwart, steadfast, invisible hand of love behind your back.”
Speaking with HELLO! magazine, Ferguson also called Queen Elizabeth the “biggest influence” in her life, both professionally and personally. “It was the privilege of my life to have her as my mother-in-law,” she said.
“She was the most extraordinary example of duty, loyalty and steadfastness, both as head of state and as a private individual.”
