US President Donald Trump has shifted his TV host targeting toward CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, warning she faces cancellation.
On August 5, via Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP. She never had the courage to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!”
Previously, the president has celebrated of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s cancellation last month, during which he claimed Colbert had “less talent than his show ratings.”
He also warned other late-night names like Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon they could be “next.”
The catalyst for Trump’s attack was a recent New York Post report in which a source said the CBS Mornings audience “doesn’t want woke,” referencing King’s interview with Bob the Drag Queen promoting a book about Harriet Tubman.
“It doesn’t like progressive and provocative bookings,” the source added, saying viewers expect positivity, cheer, and joy.
Trump’s comments come amid broader shifts at CBS. Paramount, CBS's parent company, agreed to a $16 million settlement with Trump over a 60 Minutes interview controversy.
This deal is reportedly prompting the network to reconsider elements of its programming strategy.
In short, Trump’s attack on King may be less spontaneous and more strategic, tapping into political rhetoric around “woke" media.
