Star Wars is one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood and as it approaches its 50th anniversary, fans are excited to see what is in plans for the celebrations.

The first movie of the franchise, created by George Lucas, was released in 1977 that sparked a newfound interest of audience in science fiction movies.

Disney rolled out a new post as the 50th anniversary of the first movie is getting closer.

Star Wars: A New Hope will be re-released in cinemas on April 30, 2027.

The movie stars acting icons like Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, late Carrie Fisher and David Prowse. Along with them will be Darth Vader voiced by James Earl Jones.

The post shared by Disney features Luke and Leia posing as they were seen on the original film poster by Tom Jung.

Luke can be seen holding a light saber all embellished in gold with a large “50”.

A fan wrote “50 years! Still holds up!” in response to the news.

Another wrote “Epic milestone for the film that started it all.”
