Before they became the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton and Prince William were sneaking into concerts just like the rest of us and yes, they’re Rihanna fans.
Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills has revealed that the royal couple secretly attended BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend back in May 2010, just months before announcing their engagement. And they were there to see, none other than Rihanna.
“It was kept quiet for security reasons, but they were watching Rihanna at the side of the stage,” Mills told Heat magazine.
“The bosses knew, but the rest of us had no idea. I love that they got involved.”
Held in Bangor, North Wales, the 2010 festival also featured chart-toppers like Kesha, Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys, Florence & The Machine, and 30 Seconds to Mars.
At the time, William and Kate were still under the radar. The pair had met at the University of St. Andrews and had quietly built a romance rooted in friendship and shared interests.
The couple announced their engagement just six months later and tied the knot in a globally televised ceremony in April 2011.
Today, they’re proud parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
