James Gunn's Superman, which is set to launch a new DC Universe, sparked social media users to reflect on its real-world conflict reference in the movie.
Superman was released on Friday, July 11, and the reviews are rather political.
The movie features several scenes that compare the people in modern conflicts and liberation themes.
One scene shows a heavily armed military force attacking civilians across a border. Children’s lives are at risk under attack, which fuels the comparisons to real-world war issues.
Social media didn’t see this coming, that an American-based movie would be voicing support for people being eradicated by a powerful country supported by the US.
Audiences didn’t expect this from a popular production studio like Warner Bros., especially since Superman is an original American hero; nevertheless, Gunn has previously said that it’s an immigrant story.
People are in shock. Someone wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter:
“Superman saves innocent kids about to be blown to bits by an advanced occupying military attacking impoverished defenceless country"
People also noted it to be a “major cultural moment.”
Krystal Ball tweeted on X that it's unexpected in a Hollywood movie (Superman). RELATED: Sydney Sweeney to star in Marcus Kliewer’s upcoming book adaptation
