Lena Dunham rose to fame for her show Girls which she starred in before pivoting her focus towards writing and directing.
The actress is now promoting her new directorial venture, Too Much, which is based on he real life experiences.
Speaking on an episode of the Girls Rewatch podcast, the actress responded to the backlash she has been receiving.
“I knew enough to know kind of the direction it was going – it was impossible to ignore – and I knew that people would tell me what it meant to them, but I also knew that there were people that were angry.”
Lena said that she has been hearing angry comments about her work from 2012.
“There were so many angry, seemingly men and some women dissecting the show in these incredibly conservative terms”, she added.
While Girls follows four girls navigating their lives in New York, Lena’s new show Too Much is about a newly single girl who meets a ref flag guy and builds a connection with him.
