American singer Dolly Parton has announced the decision to step back from songwriting as she is in deep emotional distress after husband Carl Dean’s death.

Parton, 79, appeared on Khloé Kardashian's Wonder Land podcast where she talked about career lifespan, future plans, her grandpa and late spouse.

Rockstar vocalist revealed, “I can’t do it right now because I’ve got so many other things. I’m just putting that all on hold.”

The country legend said: “Everything begins with a story or a song. I think that’s one of the reasons I love to write, because I feel like I’m so connected to God then.”

“I ain't everything. I can't afford the luxury of getting that emotional right now,” the National Medal of Arts awardee added.

The Grammy award winner opened up about her dreams: "There's always new dreams. I always say I wake up with new dreams every day. And a lot of my people that work with me, they say, yeah, your dreams are killing us. Cuz they have to help me carry them out."

"In order to make your dream a reality, you're going to have to sacrifice, but never sacrifice the things that are the most meaningful to you,” the Jolene sonstress concluded with advice.

Does Dolly Parton have children?

Dolly Parton married an American businessman Carl Dean in 1966 and the couple chose not to have children. Dean died on March, 03, 2025, at the age of 82.
