Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune 3 has been officially titled as Dune: Part Three, a choice that defies fans expectations and leaves them saddened.
Based on the novels by Frank Herbert, the third instalment is expected to be named as Dune Messiah, a nod to the 1969 book that the upcoming film will adapt as its storyline.
According to Variety, the highly-anticipated part will also include scenes shot with Imax cameras.
Contrary to Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, the movie will not be entirely shot on Imax cameras.
The unexpected change in title has taken the internet by storm, drawing flak from the fans.
One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “No Dune Messiah? Guess we are skipping the prophecy and going straight to the sequel vibes.”
Another user commented: “It’s lost, if he goes more on cinematics, less plot, then I quit this saga..”
Another commentator showed amazement: “Huuuuhhhhh???? That’s a surprise.”
The upcoming sci-fi film witnesses Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya reprising their roles as Paul Atreides and Chani respectively.
Jason Momoa will be starring as Duncan Idaho after his absence from Dune: Part Two.
The other cast includes Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, Momoa’s son and Ida Brooke as Paul and Chani’s twin children, Leto II and Ghanima.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the movie’s production is set to begin in Hungary, according to the Hungarian National Film Office.
Dune: Part Three is expected to arrive in theatres in December 2026.
