And of course, the debate is centered around the most controversial choices made by the key players: Jun Hee (player 222) Gi-Hun (player 456) and the mother son duo Geum Ja and Young Sik (Player 149 & 007).
Majority of the fans believed it crossed the line, arguing it as Geum Ja’s actions less heroic and more disturbing.
Why Did Geum Ja kill her son?
The mother son duo was first introduced in season 2, surprisingly reunite Ion the island, unaware of the fact that others had also returned to settle Young Sik’s debts.
First, Geum Ja begged her son to leave and let her take his place in the brutal games. But they ended up staying and participating once they have realized the scale of brutality of the games.
Although, the mother-son-duo stood by each other, and making strong bond with Jun Hee (a pregnant single woman) and Choi Hyun Ju.
However, things got 180-degree turn, during hide-and-seek game, when Geum Ja and Young Sik were pitted against each other.
In a chilling moment, when the timer starts ticking down, Young Sik was left with no choice but to kill Jun Hee or his own mother. When he moved toward Jun Hee, Geum Ja made up her mind and aimed her weapon at her son.
Thus, by killing her own son in order to protect Jun Hee and her unborn child the mother sacrifices her own flesh and blood.
And the netizens arguing that Young Sik, didn’t deserve to die like this because he was simply trying to survive, since he was the Centre of Geum Ja’ universe.
