One of Stephen King’s most beloved stories is finally heading to the big screen.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by a deadly plague, The Stand was originally published in 1978 and received rave reviews.

According to Deadline, Doug Liman has been confirmed to direct a new feature film adaptation of the book for Paramount Pictures.

The veteran director will also serve as producer alongside Tyler Thompson, reuniting after their collaboration on American Made, with a screenwriter for the project to be announced at a later date.

It is worth noting that the legendary horror filmmaker George A. Romero attempted to convert the book into a movie with Ben Affleck but the project was ultimately scrapped.

However, the novel has been adapted for television including the 1994 miniseries for ABC and 2019 limited series for CBS.

The Stand follows the struggle between two groups of survivors. The first batch is guided by Stu Redman, a righteous man who gathers followers in Colorado and the second group is led by the power hungry Randall Flagg.

What is Doug Liman famous for?

Born in New York City, filmmaker Doug Liman first became famous for directing the 1996 buddy comedy Swingers.

The 59-year-old later became a prominent action movie director, making blockbusters such as The Bourne Identity starring Matt Damon and Edge of Tomorrow, which starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
