Travis Scott fans have been left shaken by Netflix's powerful new documentary that revisits the 2021 Astroworld Festival tragedy through real and unfiltered cellphone footage. The night of celebration turned into a fatal catastrophe that claimed 10 lives and injured hundreds.
Some viewers described it as ‘sickening’ and ‘hard to watch’. Held on November 5, 2021, 50,000 fans were packed into Houston’s NRG Park to see rapper Travis Scott perform.
The documentary features chilling real-time footage taken by attendees showing tightly packed crowds breaching safety barriers screaming for help. When Scott came on stage, the already tense atmosphere erupted into chaos.
“The music started playing, and you just felt your whole body move forward," one survivor recalled, adding, “And then the wave comes back.”
Experts featured in the documentary argue that the tragedy could be avoidable. Crowd safety analyst Scott Davidson bluntly states, “I believe Astroworld 2021 was not an accident. It was an inevitability due to the lack of foresight and the abandonment of basic safety protocols.”
Even more shocking are the alleged leaked text messages from Live Nation staff before and during the event.
One message, reportedly sent at 9:34 p.m. reads: “Stage right of main is getting crushed. This is bad. Pull tons over the rail unconscious… Someone’s going to end up dead.”
Despite this, the show continued, with Scott briefly pausing only once to call out someone in distress before carrying on. He ended his performance 15–20 minutes early, later stating he was unaware of the severity of what was happening in the crowd.
