Matthew McConaughey and Nic Pizzolatto are teaming up again to bring detective Mike Hammer to the big screen.

McConaughey is in talks to star in a feature film adaptation of the legendary sleuth which will be based on a script by Pizzolatto, Deadline reports.

The actor and the screenwriter famously joined forces for the highly-acclaimed first season of HBO’s True Detective.

However, the outlet also reports that the project is currently seeking a director that can bring the duo’s vision to life.

Beginning with 1947’s I, the Jury, the Mike Hammer series has sold over 250 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most beloved mystery series of all time.

The character has long been a staple of the crime genre and is widely credited with influencing pop culture icons like Dirty Harry and James Bond.

McConaughey and Pizzolatto’s reunion has been teased for years, with the former looking to take on the intriguing role of Hammer.

Skydance Media acquired the rights to Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins’ franchise, with plans to develop the bestselling novels into a major film.

The production will be led by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger, alongside Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady.

Also involved are Benjamin Forkner of Pendleton and Ken F. Levin as producers, with Collins serving as executive producer and Jane Spillane as co-producer.
