WWE wrestler Jade Cargill is set to make her acting debut in True Threat, a Harlem-based action thriller directed by Gerard McMurray, known for The First Purge and Burning Sands.
Cargill will star alongside Jonathan Majors, who plays the lead role of Vernon Threat, a Special Forces operative seeking justice after his son's murder by the Apollo Kids gang in Harlem.
The film is produced by Alexis Garcia's CAT5, with Charlamagne Tha God, Basil Iwanyk and Karen Kinney's Southland Stories, which is a new production company focused on amplifying underrepresented voices.
The 33-year-old’s addition to the movie marks a significant step forward, following Majors' casting earlier this year.
“Our mission here is to champion new faces and new voices in action storytelling. Jade is exactly the type of dynamic talent we want to introduce to the global film audience,” McMurray shared with Deadline.
The film is set to begin production this fall and depicts Cargill as a central antagonist and lieutenant within the Apollo Kids gang.
The athlete’s character controls the red light district of The Carter, a 20-story project building.
The role is expected to showcase Cargill’s athleticism and physicality, aligning with her background in wrestling.
