Meryl Streep reveals she wanted to marry Charles as she meets her childhood crush

Hollywood legend Meryl Streep finally came face-to-face with her childhood crush, King Charles, at the glittering King’s Foundation Awards held at St James’s Palace.

The Oscar-winning actress joined fellow A-listers including Kate Winslet, David Beckham, Stanley Tucci, and Sir Rod Stewart to mark the foundation’s 35th anniversary.

While chatting warmly with the King during the event, Streep shared a full-circle moment.

The Devil Wears Prada icon once joked in a 2009 interview that she “wanted to be a princess and marry Prince Charles” when she was a child, a comment she later told him in person, humorously adding, “I’m sorry it didn’t work out between us. But I’m not really sorry.”

The royal encounter wasn’t Streep’s first. She’s previously met King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain when awarded the Princess of Asturias Arts Award.

The star-studded event celebrated pioneers in sustainability, environmental education, and traditional heritage crafts supported by The King’s Foundation. Charles, as Royal Founding President, cut a cake shaped like the number “35” and met the award winners, who competed in eight categories.
