Virginia Giuffre, the woman who accused Prince Andrew of sexual assault, allegations he has consistently denied, was reportedly being bullied online in the days leading up to her death.
Giuffre died by suicide on April 25 at her farm in Western Australia. She was 40.
In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew, alleging she had been trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and forced to have sex with the royal when she was 17.
Prince Andrew settled the case out of court for an undisclosed sum, without admitting liability.
Now, months after her passing, Giuffre’s close friend and fellow Epstein survivor, Anouska De Georgiou, is speaking out.
In an emotional interview with the BBC, De Georgiou revealed that Virginia was facing a wave of online harassment at the time of her death.
“She was navigating recovery while being viciously attacked,” she said.
“There are thousands of comments saying she wasn’t telling the truth, some even celebrating her death.”
Giuffre’s family previously confirmed she died by suicide, saying: “The toll of abuse became unbearable... Despite all the adversity she faced, she shone so bright.”
