The family of Virginia Giuffre, the woman who bravely accused Prince Andrew of sexual abuse, has released a powerful handwritten letter she wrote shortly before her death, vowing that her “voice will not be silenced.”
Giuffre, 41, was found dead last week at her farmhouse near Perth, Western Australia. Authorities are treating her death as a suspected suicide.
In the letter, shared by her sister-in-law Amanda Roberts, Giuffre called for unity in the fight against sexual abuse and urged families to stand together for survivors.
“Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, and Brothers need to show the battle lines are drawn, and stand together to fight for the future of victims,” she wrote.
“Is protesting the answer? I don’t know. But we’ve got to start somewhere.”
Her family confirmed her passing on April 26, describing her as a “fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse.”
“She was the light that lifted so many survivors... she shone so bright,” they said in a statement. “She will be missed beyond measure.”
Giuffre is survived by her three children, who her family called “the light of her life.”
The tragic news comes just weeks after Giuffre posted a concerning message on Instagram, claiming doctors had given her only days to live after a serious traffic accident involving a school bus.
The March 30 post described kidney failure and her emotional wish to see her children one last time.
However, local authorities later questioned the severity of the crash, and her publicist declined to confirm specific details about the incident or the Instagram post’s accuracy.
“This year has been the worst start to a new year,” Giuffre wrote. “I’ve gone into kidney renal failure, they’ve given me four days to live... I’m ready to go, just not until I see my babies one last time.”
Giuffre became internationally known for accusing Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, of sexual abuse, alleging he assaulted her multiple times in 2001 when she was 17 years old — allegations he vehemently denies.
Her claims were part of a broader legal battle against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, both convicted for their roles in a sex trafficking ring involving underage girls.
In 2022, Prince Andrew settled Giuffre's civil lawsuit out of court for an undisclosed sum, without admitting wrongdoing.
