Prince Harry has reportedly dropped a new royal bombshell and it has left King Charles reeling.

According to The Mail on Sunday, the Duke of Sussex "actively explored" changing his surname to Spencer, his late mother Princess Diana’s maiden name, in a move that’s being described as a symbolic snub to his royal roots.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk the King would be “appalled and hurt” by his youngest son’s drastic consideration, calling it a “very public renunciation” of the royal family.

“Prince Harry was reportedly discussing the possibility of changing his name to Spencer with his uncle, the Earl, who advised against it,” Fitzwilliams shared.

“This news will be deeply hurtful to King Charles, especially so soon after he became King.”

The change never went through, reportedly due to “legal hurdles”, but the very idea, insiders say, could drive the royal rift even deeper.

“This would’ve been a clear gesture of enmity,” Fitzwilliams added. “The King will be appalled.”

How Prince Harry's royal rift deepened

Just last month, Harry, 40, claimed his father “won’t speak” to him, allegedly due to tensions around Harry’s failed legal battle over police protection during visits to the UK.

In a separate interview, the Duke made waves again when he publicly questioned how much time his father had left, a comment that raised eyebrows among royal watchers.

King Charles, 76, has remained publicly silent — but the rift seems to be growing deeper by the day.
