Tom Cruise's most recent Mission: Impossible installment at the box office was one of his most humiliating setbacks to date, made even worse by the fact that it was outperformed by a children’s film.
While Cruise and his crew's Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning made less than half of the holiday-weekend total of Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake which rode the big wave to the top of the box office over Memorial Day weekend.
Despite some Disney fans threatening to boycott the movie for being "woke," the Lilo & Stitch remake was a huge success.
By Sunday, the live-action hybrid film, which starred Hannah Waddingham (who also appeared as a new member in the most recent Mission: Impossible movie), Zach Galifianakis, Tia Carrere, and a cute Maia Kealoha as Lilo, had made an estimated $145.5 million.
According to the reports, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning was expected to bring in about $77 million at home and an additional $127 million abroad.
It is the eighth and last film in the Mission: Impossible movie series and the follow-up to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023).
