Ryan Reynolds’ recent admission that he attempted to lead the Star Wars galaxy into uncharted territory has sparked a swift reaction.
The 48-year-old Deadpool actor revealed on Friday’s episode of The Box Office podcast that he once proposed an R-rated Star Wars movie to Disney, aiming to explore a darker side of the renowned PG-rated franchise.
‘I pitched to Disney, I said, “Why don’t we do an R-rated Star Wars property? It doesn’t have to be overt, A+ characters. There’s a wide range of characters you could use,”’ Reynolds remarked.
However, R-rated doesn’t necessarily mean vulgarity. As a Trojan horse for emotion, it carries an R-rating. It always baffles him why studio is not willing to take that kind of risk.
None of Disney's Star Wars properties have ever been rated higher than TV-14 or PG-13, despite the franchise's expansion through series like The Mandalorian, Andor, and The Acolyte.
Ryan Reynolds is one of the highest-paid actors but not the top earner. In 2024, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson led the list with $88 million, while Reynolds earned $85 million.
