Prince Harry might be closing the chapter on his royal life for good, at least, that’s the message some royal watchers are reading into Meghan Markle’s latest social media post.
Just one day after the Duke of Sussex lost his High Court appeal over his UK security status, Meghan quietly dropped a rare snapshot of Harry with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The photo, which shows Harry walking through the garden of their Montecito estate, carrying Lilibet on his shoulders and holding Archie’s hand, is being interpreted as far more than just a family moment.
According to royal commentator Jennie Bond, the image speaks volumes.
“I think the recent post of Harry walking into the distance with his two children suggested that he’s walking away from his old life once and for all,” Bond told The Mirror.
The timing of the post was particularly striking, coming hot on the heels of Harry’s explosive BBC interview in which he called the court’s ruling a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up” and reflected on his strained ties with the royal family.
As Harry and Meghan celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary, Bond also noted that royal well-wishes from across the pond likely won’t be arriving.
“I very much doubt that there will be anniversary wishes winging their way from the UK to California,” she said, before reflecting on just how far things have changed since the couple's 2018 fairytale wedding.
“It’s extraordinary that it’s only been seven years,” Bond said. “It was a day filled with love and hope and she seemed to represent exactly what a modern monarchy needed.”
“The love they apparently felt for one another almost from the moment they met.”
