King Charles stunned the nation with a powerful live address during the VE Day 80 Celebration Concert on Wednesday night, marking a historic moment on the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Taking to the stage at 9pm sharp, the exact hour his grandfather King George VI addressed the UK in 1945, the 76-year-old monarch paid heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of the WWII generation.

“While our greatest debt is owed to all those who paid the ultimate price, we should never forget how the war changed the lives of virtually everyone,” Charles declared.

The speech marked a symbolic and emotional full circle, with King Charles following in the footsteps of his grandfather, King George VI, who addressed a relieved and war-weary Britain from Buckingham Palace on the original VE Day in 1945.

The BBC1-broadcast concert, titled VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember, brought together music, spoken word, and military tributes, including dramatic performances from stars like Brian Cox, Fleur East, and Samantha Barks.
