Lady Gaga and her fans could have been in grave danger as they attended the 911 singer’s concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

The Brazilian police issued a statement after the massive event disclosing shocking details of the potential attack, suspected assailants and their arrests which took place beforehand.

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro state worked hand-in-hand with the Justice Ministry to unveil that the people placed under arrest were responsible for spreading hate speech, violent content, and the radicalisation of teenagers under the guise of 'social belonging.'

“Those involved were recruiting participants, including teenagers, to carry out integrated attacks using improvised explosives and molotov cocktails,” the authorities noted of the group.

According to the Justice Ministry, the party posed as “Little Monsters” online - a nickname given by Lady Gaga to her fans - to coerce teenagers into cooperation.

The purpose behind the now-foiled bombing is said to have been to gain “notoriety on social media,” as per Rio police chief, Luiz Lima.

The Brazilian authorities had carried out two arrests, a man said to be the head of the life-threatening plot, for possession of illegal weaponry and a teenager charged for sexual abuse in Rio.

The police also reasoned that they did not send out alerts prior to the free concert to “avoid panic” and “the distortion of information.”

Notably, the concert was sponsored by the city, in an attempt to boost Rio’s economy.

Did the Rio police amp up security for the concert?

Yes, the Rio police admitted to intensifying the security for the event with around 5,200 officers deployed to the beach, where the Born This Way singer was performing.
