The highly anticipated sequel to A Simple Favour called Another Simple Favour has finally been released, but the reception is far from glowing.
Starring Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick and several other stars, the flick is certainly beautiful, but the same can’t be said for the plot.
"Stephanie Smothers agrees to travel to Italy to be the maid of honour for the devious and cunning Emily Nelson. However, she soon suspects Emily's good will is part of an elaborate plan for revenge," reads the synopsis.
As one critic explains on Rotten Tomatoes, “Kendrick and Lively put on an honourable show, but can’t disguise a certain fatigue at carrying a narrative that barely rises above a creaky Scooby-Doo level.”
Calling out the bizarre plot twists but beautiful visuals, this reviewer said, “Here, lunacy rules, and it is doused in expensive bottles of champagne, boats, parties, and jewelry that is probably a mortgage down payment. Even if you're extremely confused, at least the beachfront view is beautiful.”
Deeming it a skip, this user claimed, “Another Simple Favor struggles to justify its existence. Not only is it unnecessary, or irrelevant, it also goes on to dilute the established character dynamics. You can do yourself a simple favour and pass on this sequel for now.”
However, if nothing else, viewers enjoyed the chemistry between the leads, “I did enjoy the various twists and turns and the chemistry between Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively is fantastic. It's a little bit overstuffed, and a little bit complicated, but I still have a soft spot for it.”
