The Conjuring Universe will get its final edition in the mainline franchise, since The Conjuring: Last Rites follows the last case of the Warrens.

The film is slated to release on September 5 of this year, with director Michael Chaves helming the project after previous contributions in The Nun 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

The titular project, The Conjuring, came out in 2013 and is the most popular one of the series, garnering praise from fans and critics alike.

The movie was directed by James Wan, who has other notorious projects like Insidious and Saw under his belt, which caused fans to debate if the upcoming addition will be worth watching or not.

One netizen noted, “Such a shame when you think of the highs of this universe being near perfect horror movies and the way they just let it go to nothing with one director having so much sway over the end (kinda like how Yates ruined Harry Potter by removing all the magic - Chaves is doing that by removing the horror).”

Another critiqued, “…I agree, James Wan at the helm would be the best thing for the series to come to a successful conclusion.”

While a third half-defended 40-year-old Chaves saying, “In fairness Michael Chaves could definitely a satisfying finale even though I pretty much dislike most of his films.”

A fourth added, "The third conjuring is my personal favorite so I have no issues with him directing this one as well."

Notably, an official trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites has not been released yet.

When did the last 'Conjuring' movie come out?

The third installment in the series The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It came out in 2021. The movie followed investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they delved into the first American case citing demonic possession as a defense.
